Maintaining the Beauty of Your Floor
July 1, 2020
One of the lesser-considered benefits of installing professional epoxy flooring is the ease of maintenance and cleaning the new surface provides. Other flooring types like carpet, vinyl, stone, or tile each come with their own challenges for maintaining quality, color, and durability. At GFC Columbus, however, our floors provide both a decorative and durable solution that requires a minimal amount of cleaning to maintain their stunning appearance.
Cleaning: The Basics
Like any other flooring, epoxy will accumulate a normal amount of dirt and debris. In both interior and exterior settings, however, the basics of keeping your epoxy floor clean are the same. By removing any loose debris with a non-abrasive broom or leaf blower, the cleaning process is as simple as a mop and a gentle solution of Simple Green and warm water. The most important part of this step is to NOT use just any detergent. Soapy cleaners like Dawn will leave a film on your floor which will attract dirt and dull the shine!
Over the years of getting feedback from customers, we have also learned a few tricks to ensure discoloration does not inadvertently happen. Here are a couple:
Be careful placing doormats directly on floors – rubber backing may react with the floor!
WD-40 can remove sticky residues without damaging the clear coat – Avoid scraping when possible!
Acids from automobiles may damage the floor – always be cautious with brake fluid and other caustic fluids!
There are many reasons to purchase a premium Epoxy or Epoxy/Polyaspartic Hybrid flooring system from Garage Floor Coating of Columbus. On the surface, they are decorative, unique, and incredibly durable. More than that, however, they also provide a convenience for the customer by saving time and money for maintenance while staying true to their original luster and finish.
